Elsa Lopez's Cowiche-area home was surrounded by the floodwaters of nearby Cowiche Creek so Pat Gavin carried her inside to keep her feet dry. Family members and friends, including Gavin, laid sandbags in front of the house and managed to divert the water just before it entered the house.
