Sam Gordon stretches out a hose as he tries to keep a fire from spreading to nearby homes on Keys Road after the fire spread to woods along the Yakima River. With Gordon's help, the fire did not jump the dike on which Gordon stands and the homes were spared. Fire department officials said the fire was purposely set and was part of a string of arson fires to hit the Yakima Valley.
