Throughout the high school football season, there are good weeks in the schedule and other weeks where we get the chance to feature teams or players that we normally wouldn’t. With a 10-week season and a month of playoffs, there are bound to be some excellent games — but this year everyone in our newsroom had one game in particular circled — No. 4 Ellensburg at No. 3 Prosser.
It’s not often that we see a regular season game that could also be a state championship matchup — and unfortunately the latter won’t be the case this season due to the playoff bracketing (these teams may play again in the state quarterfinals) — but if there was a year and two teams for that to happen, it would be this season’s Bulldogs and Mustangs squads.
As tends to be the case sometimes, vacations and other time off tend to come at the wrong times, leaving our photo staff short-handed for last Friday night, and with another big game in Selah, I was given the task of both shooting photos and video highlights of this clash of CWAC powers.
The game was simply amazing — the best high school football game I’ve ever seen. The action literally came down to the last play, a knocked-down Prosser pass in the end zone to give the visiting Ellensburg Bulldogs a 21-14 victory.
Here’s my highlights from that game along with a few stills I was able to grab. All-in-all I was happy with the results, and even happier that the game lived up to all of our expectations.
