It’s no surprise that I consider myself a sports guy — hence why most of my work and posts on this blog are about sports.
But at some point, we all must venture out into the news and features side of the world — and a few weeks ago I was served up a story on a silver platter.
Myself and Kaitlyn Bernauer were asked to help out with a new project where families tell each other stories — much like StoryCorps. Our subject was a 90-year-old WWII veteran who grew up in Kansas — that’s about all we knew.
Once we met Naida Hurlburt, we realized that she was not 90, but 99-years-old.
Hurlburt told her life story to her granddaughter while I captured the conversation on video. By the end of our time at the shoot, I turned to Kaitlyn and said, “This story will be great — I just have to get out of its way.”
I hope I was able to do Naida’s story some justice.
