This past weekend I went over to Tacoma to cover the state wrestling championships.
Perhaps organization isn’t the first this that comes to mind with photography, but when it comes to something on this scale it’s important to go in having the best possible plan you can muster up.
It’s also a time when having a super prepared reporter is pretty vital. Working with our prep editor I was able to figure out exactly which matches our 19 wrestlers were in, and which ones were the most important to come away with visuals on.
From there, I had to make a map of the layout of the Tacoma Dome. Six matches occur simultaneously for each weight class, and there were multiple times where I needed to come away with something from three or four at a time.
Matching the map up with the priority list left me with the perfect tool to get through two hours of straight wrestling.
What had the full possibility of becoming utter chaos, was completely manageable with a little bit of planning. Top that with the fact that I was able to cover all but one of the wrestlers we had in the region, and I can feel pretty good about tackling state wrestling.
