This past weekend we ran a story about a WWII vet, Al Neely. He was a guest speaker for the YUSSVI Yakima Base, the Eastern Washington chapter of the national US Submarine Veterans’ meet up. He recalled his experience in the capturing a German U-boat, U-505, and told a very detailed account of the boarding parties that secured the boat for towing to Bermuda.
During his speech, he got very emotional when describing the event where many of his friends had been killed. It’s hard to see a man such as that tear up. It almost seemed like yesterday in the way that he was describing it. After his speech, I had to go over and shake his hand. He was a pretty amazing dude.
