Ahhh… State Basketball. There’s nothing quite like it.
Three 15-hour days in the SunDome puts the little things like sunlight and lunch breaks into real perspective. But through all of the pain is the end reward of realizing the crazy amount of work that was somehow done.
My state basketball experience is unique. During these three days I, along with news editor Jeff Garretson, run and produce content for Tourneytown.com, the state tournament specific website of the Yakima Herald-Republic. While Jeff keeps live scoring and writes gamers on all 44 games over the three days, I shoot photo galleries of every game along with video highlight packages for all of the local teams’ games and championship games.
When it was all said and done this year we published 709 photos to the website along with 19 highlight packages and three special editions of Prep Insider.
Days started before 8 a.m. and usually ended around or after midnight. Two days later in fact I still have a headache and am tired from the tournament. But looking back at what we were able to produce in such a short amount of time is still amazing.
Of course I wasn’t the only one shooting basketball this weekend. The team of Gordon King, Kaitlyn Bernauer and Mason Trinca pulled out some amazing frames from not only the tournament in Yakima, but Tacoma as well. I’m sure they’ll post some of their favorite shots soon.
In the meantime here’s a few of my favorites from the championship games.
Now it’s time for a nap.
