A lot of conventions, shows, and other events roll through town every year. These events are important to readers, so naturally we cover a good chunk of them. Unfortunately, they usually aren’t particularly visual spectacles.
One of my favorite professors in college stood by the fact that as photojournalists, it’s our job to not just be there for an event, but to be there both before and after it as well. To that end, we want to show readers something that they wouldn’t normally see on their own.
It’s not always possible, but when it is it usually results in a more interesting take on the event.
