I’m not a runner. I’ve never ran or photographed a marathon before, but I headed up to the Yakima River Canyon Marathon this past weekend for a full day of shooting.
We do a fairly large package for the marathon each year, which means you can’t just come back with 600 photos of people running. The struggle, the jubilation, the amount of runners, and the picturesque landscape all had to come into play to tell the full story.
The beauty of the canyon combined with the determination of the marathoners made for a truly inspirational experience – so much so that I even put on my running shoes and went for a jog (albeit about 1/10 the length of a marathon) afterwards.
