Today was one of those days when I’m reminded the diverse ways I’m part of people’s lives through my photography. This afternoon, I photographed Yakima County Prosecutor Jim Hagarty’s DUI arraignment. While no day you end up in court is a good day, I know that my presence — the presence of “the media” — probably made that situation more difficult for him. And even though it’s my job, I hate to have to make someone’s day worse.
Then, as I was walking out of the courthouse, I ran into a woman who I did some portraits for, not for the paper, but to mark her and her husband’s 50th anniversary. She’d sent me an invitation to the celebration, which had this photo on it, and said she still looked through the photos and that her kids wanted prints to hang in their homes. It was a nice to remember that I get to be part of the good days for people too.
