All in a day

Yesterday, I had the distinct honor to meet and photograph Dr. Jane Goodall before her lecture at the Capitol Theatre. I appreciated her insights that she has gained through her life as a curious child with an encouraging mother, a world-renowned primatologist and leading voice on conservation.

Town Hall Series head of theater and hospitality Julie Gilbert, left, watches as Jane Goodall searches for a place to sign her name on a wall downstairs at the Capitol Theatre before speaking Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, as part of the Town Hall Series. A world-renowned primatologist shared stores about her pioneering work with chimpanzees and as a conservationist. It is a tradition that speakers sign the wall.

Then I went to Crusin’ Bill’s gas station on Yakima Ave. and photographed people filling their tanks and talking about fuel prices.

Fernando Sanchez helps his son, Chapo, 4, pump gas at Crusin' Bills on Yakima Ave., Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011. Although gas prices have been declining slightly, they remain more than 70 cents higher than one year ago.

The thing is, I had a great time doing both.
