The reporter and I arrived early at an assignment along the Columbia Gorge. Quiet except for the wind and my steps in the gravel. I kicked at some scattered coyote fur and watched the grass, lupine and poppies tilt and wag around. The flowers caught my eye and I started to experiment. I took the lens off my camera and held it out in front a little bit, then moved in and out to find something in focus. Light leaked in and threw the colors off, the focus approaches unconsciousness, a vignette obscures the upper frame. It is beautiful.
