I shot this photo last summer while leaving a Beetles baseball game to go to another assignment. I couldn’t believe my luck, because we also needed a stand-alone photo for the next day. I quickly shot a few frames with the 400mm that I had been using for the game, then went over to get names. As I walked closer, my initial happiness quickly faded when I discovered that the guy in the photo was Yakima Herald-Republic reporter Chris Bristol and his son, Max, so I couldn’t use it in the paper. But I’ve always liked it, so I thought I’d post it here.
This is one of those adorable pictures that could only be better if you had moved the camera just a little to the left, not so much fence, but a little more of the little girl standing there who also happens to be Max’s little sister and both are my grandchildren. Things like this are very nice surprises.
