Crashes

In the moments just after two super late model cars crashed into the barriers of turn 4 during the Yakima Speedway Apple Cup, a guy yelled to me from the stands, “Hey, did you get that?” Well, yeah, I got that. It was a little far away, but I got it. The crash meant a lot to the two drivers and their teams, but had little bearing on the overall race. Still, I shot it, and we ran the photo, because, well, crashes are cool, what more can I say. I mean, I don’t want to see anyone get hurt, but what’s a race without a crash?

And sometimes, those crashes do change the race in big ways. When Shane Harding spun out and off the track in turn 1, then came back on to block his dad, Pete Harding which gave Korbin Thomas the lead and the win in the final lap, well, that crash really meant something. It was nice to have a photo of a pivotal moment in the race.
