I knew it was going to be a great day when I saw Dorothy Stephens along the Yakima River Canyon Marathon route, cheering runners to the left. She was a great start to a day full of characters that made the race one of the best I’ve covered.
Then it was world-class athletes Regina Joyce (who represented Ireland in the 1984 Olympics) and her training partner, Gail Hall, running past a colorful Jose Nebria and their smiles. Contrast. I love it.
But what really made me laugh was Kevin Blount of Ellensburg, who cracked open a Rainier shortly after finishing third.
People are what make these events great.
